Gluttony: Sin or Personal problem?

Many of the arguments used against smoking and drinking, such as health and addiction, apply equally to overeating. Many believers would not even consider having a glass of wine or smoking a cigarette but have no qualms about gorging themselves at the dinner table.

Proverbs 23:20-21 warns us, “Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags.”

Proverbs 28:7 declares, “He who keeps the law is a discerning son, but a companion of gluttons disgraces his father.”

It appears that those who overeat on a regular basis have a discipline problem. This issue also dovetails with a complete disinterest in fasting by the church.

There’s no trouble getting people to stay for that fellowship meal after church, but you’d have severe attendance problems if you had a “fast and pray service” following church.

What are the biblical reasons for Christians to fast?

If the “?” is for me I’ll explain it. It seems to me that Lowell and his friends demand that you follow GOD or the Mess I Uh blindly and without question. Human nature allows neither.

Lowell Fulk thats the understatement of the year. I bet Gene Hart really thinks so now.

  8. All the sons of Abraham have fasting traditions, Jews, Christians, and Muslims. We do so in rememberance and honor of the sacrifices of our fore-bearers in faith. Gluttony is essentially a weakness of faith, and will in the face of adversity.
